MAKEUP BAG ESSENTIALS

15 December 2022

We're going back to the roots of this blog (circa 2015) with a classic beauty products post! Today I want to share my most-loved, everyday, absolutely essential makeup products! These are my tried and tested, ride-or-die products that I can't live without (figuratively speaking, of course), the products I wear on the daily and will take with me everywhere to keep me looking my best!

Beauty Blender Bounce Liquid Whip Foundation

I picked this foundation up on a whim while browsing Sephora a year ago, it was half price and I'd been wanting to try a new foundation for a while so I thought 'why not?', not thinking I'd love it as much as I do! I've tried a bunch of different foundations, but had been loyal to MAC Studio Fix since I was in high school (and it's still #2 for me), and this was the foundation that finally took the crown from MAC as my new favourite! I have combination skin, and I like a medium-to-full coverage that doesn't separate after a few hours or look cakey and gross - this one doesn't do either of those things! It leaves my skin looking flawless and is a great base for other products - j'adore!

Benefit Hoola Bronzer

I've been using this bronzer religiously since 2015, and honestly it's amazing. It's a cool-toned matte, but still has enough warmth to give you a beautiful glow. I just have the OG shade, which I find perfect for me even with pale skin, but if you're super pale or if you have dark skin then they've also got light and dark Hoola options! It also lasts forever - I've been using mine since the end of 2015 (yeah, I probably should've replaced it by now but it works perfectly still and no irritation sooo)!

Ofra Pillowtalk Highlighter

As a pale gal who loves anything pink, this highlighter is right up my alley! Ofra highlighters came onto my radar back when they were trending with Beauty Vloggers, and I'm thankful they did because I honestly don't know what I'd be using right now otherwise. Fair warning, these are pretty intense (no matter the shade you pick), but if you're light-handed you can easily use them for everyday, and then when you want your highlighter to really POP - this product has got your back!

Colourpop Flutter By Palette

This is literally my ultimate neutral, everyday eyeshadow palette. It's a cool-toned neutral palette, but not so cool-toned that things look grey or muddy. It's the perfect in-between with cool browns, neutral taupes, and some pink/lavender toned shimmers, along with some deeper chocolates and a shimmery wine shade. The shadows themselves are great quality (as usual with Colourpop, in my experience) and easily comparable to much pricier high-end options. I hope they never discontinue this one, because I haven't seen anything that compares personally!

Lime Crime Plushies Soft Liquid Lipstick 'Milk Tea'

This is literally my perfect nude shade - I've got light/fair, neutral-toned skin, and I've always found it SO difficult to find a truly flattering nude lipstick. Most of the time, they pull orange on me, or if I try something cooler it pulls grey/purple - I've gone through so many lipsticks looking for just a nice, soft cool pinky/brown nude (who knew it would be so hard?!), and when Milk Tea arrived, I finally found it! As well as being the perfect shade, the product itself is really lovely - it's halfway between a regular matte liquid lipstick and a lip blush effect, it's easy to blot and layer to get the look you want, and it doesn't crack or dry out your lips! I'm currently awaiting a delivery with a replacement plus some other colours I'm excited to try out!

Lime Crime Wet Cherry Gloss 'Disco Cherry'

The comeback of lip gloss is something I didn't expect but am absolutely happy about, and Lime Crime's Wet Cherry Gloss' are by far my favourites! I love Disco Cherry in particular because it's the most versatile - I can use it when I'm wearing no makeup or just something minimal, or I can layer it with a lip liner or over a liquid lipstick for some extra shine and sparkle! Plus, I love anything glittery and this gloss definitely delivers on that!

Glow Recipe Lip Pop

This lip balm is my all-time fave - it's a lip balm that doubles as a scrub, tints your lips a pretty, plump pink, is super hydrating, and smells delicious! It comes in two flavours, watermelon and blueberry (both smell delicious and are very similar shades), and I honestly take it with me everywhere. It's great for no-makeup days, applied before bed and in the morning to keep your lifts fresh and smooth, or even a little on top of lipstick that's been on a while and drying out a bit!

Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara

As someone who is too lazy to apply falsies often, and scared to get extensions (sensitive eyes/skin, not to mention the cost), I like to have a good mascara that gives me the biggest, lushest lashes possible. This mascara does just that! I've been using Maybelline mascaras for years and they're definitely some of the best on the market, and while I do change things up occasionally, this is the one I seem to keep coming back to!

Essence Lip Liners | Review

21 August 2016

As you may know, it was my birthday not long ago, and with birthdays come lots of discounts and gift vouchers from clubs and email lists you're signed up to. One of those, for me, is the Priceline Sisterhood Club. I received a $5 gift voucher to spend in store, and since I don't have much money at the moment, I needed to find something relatively close to the $5 mark if I was going to be able to make use of this voucher! After narrowing down my search to either a single use face mask or something from the cheapest brand Priceline stocks - Essence, I went with the latter.

Essence is one of those hit and miss brands, where you'll either love something or hate it. These essence lip liners, which retail for only $2, fall right on top of the love category. I decided to pick out three so that I could use up the gift voucher but also so that I could test out a variety of colours!

The three that I picked out were 11 - In the Nude, which is a perfect browny-nude colour that would be perfectly paired with Mac's Velvet Teddy; 06 - Satin Mauve which is the prettiest, muted cool-toned purple shade; and 12 - Wish Me a Rose, which is quite a bold rosy pink.

All of them glide on the lips so well, I wouldn't say 'effortlessly' but the level of effort required to apply this evenly is minimal.

They also have pretty great lasting power for a $2 product, especially around the actual 'lip-line'. These can be worn either by themselves, or with a lipstick (my personal preference is a satin or velvet finish lipstick as I'm not overly in love with matte on matte).

All in all, I'm pretty happy with these lip liners and will probably keep an eye out for some of the other shades on offer! I definitely think you should check them out too, here in Australia you can find them in your local Target or Priceline!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette | Review + Swatches

4 August 2016

I finally own the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette! At last, it's mine!

As one of the most hyped, cult-status eyeshadow palettes in existence, and something found in just about every girl (and guy's) beauty collection, I certainly took my sweet time in picking up this beauty! I'll be honest, I tried very hard to ignore the hype, thinking nothing could beat my trusty UD Naked palette. Ha, was I wrong!

If the delicious, chocolatey scent that hit me when I opened the palette wasn't enough to make me fall in love, then the smooth and buttery texture of the shadows and the way they blended so easily when applied certainly sealed the deal!

The Chocolate Bar comes in a sturdy tin case that keeps the product safe, making it a great choice to bring along with you when you travel. I've got the 'new and improved' packaging, which is slimmer than the original and also has the shade names printed above each shade - which is a huge step up from the old plastic sleeve that everyone seemed to lose and really just dislike.

This palette has a versatile range of neutral, cool and warm toned shades that'll suit just about (if not) any skin tone/eye colour combination. There are 16 shades in total (6 matte, 10 shimmer) ranging from golds to browns, pinky/highlight shades, and even some 'stand-out' shades such as 'Cherry Cola' and 'Candied Violet' that add a nice albeit suttle touch of colour to any look.

Shades pictured (left to right) - Triple Fudge, Black Forest Truffle, Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Gilded Ganache.

Shades pictures (left to right) - Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semi-Sweet, Strawberry Bon Bon, Candied Violet, Amaretto.

Shades pictured (left to right) - Champagne Truffle, Cherry Cola, Haute Chocolate, Crème Brulee, Hazelnut.

As I mentioned before, these shadows are buttery and smooth and blend like a dream! For the most part, they're very pigmented (unfortunately 'Strawberry Bon Bon' and 'Candied Violet' are lacking in this department), so you only need to tap lightly to pick up a fair bit of product on your brush.

At only $72 from Mecca Maxima here in Australia, this palette is great value for money and you won't be disappointed!

My favourite shades in this palette, and the ones I see myself using the most are; Marzipan, Hazelnut, Semi-Sweet, Milk Chocolate and Amaretto! But let's be honest, they're all gorgeous!

I'm extremely happy I finally jumped on the Too Faced Chocolate Bar bandwagon, and now I'm excited to try even more of the brands products - I've got my eye on the Cocoa Contour Palette and the Melted Chocolate Honey liquid lipstick, for starters!

Do you own the Chocolate Bar palette? What do you think of this palette?

MAC's Viva Glam II

23 June 2016

Hi again lovely readers!

The last week seems to have flown by pretty quickly, and I've mostly been working, binge watching TV shows on Netflix (you can check out my top 5 shows to binge on post here), catching up on blogging and sleeping a lot. So a typical start to the holidays!

A few days ago I was in the city browsing stores, I had a jumper I didn't absolutely love that I wanted to return to Zara and since the only Zara in Brisbane is in, well, Brisbane CBD, that meant a trip to the city and some time to kill. I browsed Zara for a bit, but despite finding some lovely pieces (and being obsessed with buying clothes more so than makeup), I made the return and left empty-handed.

Well, until I strolled into the beauty section of Myer and found that this MAC concession store had all of the Viva Glam lipsticks in stock! I had a look at all of them, but ultimately (as you already know) decided on Viva Glam II. It's just such a gorgeous, muted nudey-pinky-mauvey colour and comes in the special packaging - I couldn't resist!

As the third MAC lipstick in my collection, I can already tell you that this one is my new favourite! It's such a gorgeous shade, it's a satin lipstick (which I think is my favourite finish from MAC), and it looks so lovely on - it definitely compliments pale skin and dark eyes! Not to mention, as a part of the Viva Glam collection, all of the proceeds from this purchase go to the MAC AIDS Fund, so it's good to know my money is going somewhere it can do some good for others!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this lipstick - do you own it? Would you like to? Or what other MAC Viva Glam lipsticks do you have on your wishlist? Leave a comment below letting me know!

Have a lovely weekend!

MAC's Velvet Teddy

28 April 2016

Velvet Teddy, thanks to Kylie Jenner and the 90's nude lip obsession/trend, is possibly MAC's most popular and well known lipstick right now. I'll be honest, I'm not huge on trends and usually like to stick to the classics, however since Velvet Teddy kind of is a classic, neutral nude colour and totally gorgeous, I figured it would be worth the $36 splurge.

And it definitely was - the colour, as many have noted, looks completely different on everybody but also super flattering on everybody. On me, it's the prettiest nudey-brown with a warm beige/almost orange tinged undertone (usually not my type of colour but I actually love it on me)! It's so unique, definitely channels that 90's vibe and is perfect for an understated but still noticeable everyday lip colour.

Velvet Teddy is a matte finish, however it's not at all drying on the lips and doesn't crack or rub off and look gross after a while the way so many other matte lipsticks do. It's also surprisingly super soft and hydrating on the lips, given its finish (no complaints here though, I love it)! The colour lasts pretty well - it gets me through a full 9-5 day at uni with just one or two touch ups in the centre of my lips (keeping in mind that I'll be eating, drinking water and coffee all day to get me through uni)!

All in all, I'm super happy to have Velvet Teddy added to my extremely small but slowly growing collection of MAC lipsticks!

Have you got Velvet Teddy? What do you think of it? Share your thoughts down below!

Have a lovely week!

Mary-Lou Manizer | Review

5 April 2016

I finally got it. The highlighter that every blogger/youtuber/beauty enthusiast raves about is finally mine.

I've watched as Mary-Lou took over the beauty blog-o-sphere and became every second makeup lover's holy grail highlighter. I'll be honest, I didn't really understand the hype around this product - or highlighters in general - at first. The most I'd ever done was highlight with a slightly lighter concealer, which came out alright actually. But then David Jones decided to have a 30% off all TheBalm products sale, and I conveniently looked at the right time and managed to snap up my very first highlighter for only $20.96 (a much better price given I wasn't really sure what to excpect or if I'd even like it)!

The packaging itself is almost enough to buy the product, it's just so cute and retro and different! That's what had always attracted me to TheBalm shelves, just being able to look at all of the packaging (lame, I know, but it's true)! The pan is a decent, full size compact and has a mirror on the inside - which is always good. The only negative to the packaging (or maybe the product, or a combination of both?) would be that it seems to break super easily. Luckily, I haven't had that misfortune yet, nor do I plan to (touch wood)!

The product itself is just gorgeous, it's a super pigmented and smooth powder highlighter in this beautiful sort of muted golden/champagne colour with a bit of shimmer. And it looks gorgeous on, even though I'm quite pale I think it's super complimentary of my skin tone and colour. I've also seen girls with medium, tan, olive, Asian and African colouring pull off this highlighter so well, so I think it's a totally universal shade!

I'm honestly in love with Mary-Lou and cannot believe I didn't purchase it earlier! This one is definitely going to be a staple in my everyday makeup routing from now on!

Have you tried the Mary-Lou Manizer? Do you love it or hate it (or just meh)? Let me know in a comment down below, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
